The Ancient and Accepted Scottish Rite exists as an appendant and concordant body of Freemasonry. It confers the 4th through 32nd Degrees. One should not consider these higher rankings but rather extensions of the Master Mason's experience. Each degree presents a moral or philosophical lesson. Each Scottish Rite fraternity presides over a particular geographical area called a valley.
The Valley of Indianapolis resides in the Northern Masonic Jurisdiction and possesses four governing bodies. Each body then oversees a set number of the concordant degrees, has its own officers & certain other duties and obligations.
Please note: a Scottish Rite Mason does not necessarily come from Scotland (nor need be of Scottish descent) nor must they travel to Scotland. |
