Apollo, Mercury, Ben Hur?
The truth is that this interesting piece of art is the object of some debate! For a long time it was believed that this statuette was a depiction of Ben Hur. Until one day during a class field trip a young visitor spoke out in objection to the knowledgeable tour guide! She stated that the statue could not be that of Ben Hur because the hero never used a chariot comprised of three horses. Upon further review it was discovered that he child was correct. So the statue was closely inspected to reveal that there are no markings on it whatsoever. Not even artists signature.
The Scottish Rite Cathedral is a meticulously kept and closely studied historical landmark. Nearly every aspect of it's creation, maintenance, and all of it's interior artifacts are passionately well know by it's members and especially by the Tour Guide committee. Yet this item eludes explanation.
So now that this interesting piece of art has made it's way on to world wide web perhaps an answer will emerge.
