On the left is a figure with a blueprint and trestle board, and on the right a figure with a square and broken column denoting the frailty of life.  Notice the cathedrals in the background are cathedrals in Cologne, Germany.  In the borders are shown different types of architecture: Egyptian, Tuscan, Doric, Corinthian, Composite, Roman, and Gothic.  At the top left is a T-square and triangle and on the right a blueprint with a 24" gauge and a compass.  On the bottom are the Mayan Temple and the Leaning Tower of Pisa.
