Welcome to the Scottish Rite Cathedral Virtual Tour!
This is an interactive presentation of some of what you would experience if you were visit the Cathedral in person.  We have captured a few rooms for you to explore from the comfort of your own home or office.  Of course nothing takes the place of actually visiting !  You will not witness the friendly tour guides and Tilers that greet you at the door, nor will you
be able to hear them passionately describe the details of this proud establishment and the interesting stories they pass along.  All of the rooms are far greater and more enchanting then the photographs can portray.

The sound of the Baxter bells and the tempting aroma of IndyAnnas  preparing for the downtown lunch crowd, have not been included in this
version of the tour.  That you will have to experience yourself in person.

Select a room to explore, and wait for the picture to load on that page.
Once the image has loaded put your pointer onto the picture itself, click, hold and point in any direction that you would like to look!  Look for special instructions on each page that might help you along.  Some of the images on this site require a PLUG-IN to view.  If the picture never loads always select the java version.  Read on to lean more about navigation and IPIX PLUG-IN vs. Java versions.

Java Version vs. IPIX Plug-in: What's the difference?

IPIX Plug-in

The IPIX Plug-in is free and offers you the ability to view higher resolution virtual tour images, experience smoother navigation, and enables you to views hundreds of other interesting IPIX virtual tour images found all over the Internet.  The download process is well automated and virtually invisible.

Choosing to view higher resolution images will somewhat increase image loading times.  Downloading plug-ins may not be permitted in your workplace due to security settings.  If this is the case, please enjoy the Java version or contact your network administrator for assistance.

The Java version

The Java version uses a simple java applet to power your virtual tour.  It requires no Plug-in and is quick and ready to go!  This version uses lower quality images and you may experience a choppy effect while navigating.
Icons for navigating with this version are somewhat different then the plug-in version.  See "Navigating the Java Version" below.

The java version, because it utilizes lower resolution images, will load faster and may be a good option for those dial up users and for slower  connections.  Try them both!

Navigating the IPIX Plug-in

It's easy!  Put your pointer anywhere on the picture.  You should notice the familiar pointing hand icon.  Move slowly in any direction to pan.  You will discover that when you point to the center of the image the pointer changes to a positive or negative symbol .
Center up (positive) is Zoom In.  If you click at this point you will zoom in.
Center down (negative) is Zoom Out.  It takes a little practice to get the feel of it.

Hint:  When panning try to keep your pointer nearest the center of the image. The further away from center you point the faster the panning action.   This can be a dizzying experience at first.  For the best experience stay near center and use short little clicks to pan.

Have fun.
